Travels in France: French Work Wear

A few years ago, we sailed our wooden boat over to France. We spent most of our time in Brittany, which has a rough, rocky coast. The sailors and fisherman are rugged. The boats are utilitarian-built. The tide goes in and out 15 feet. Nature is everywhere. Man is but a speck in this landscape.

The people are so kind, down to earth, and artistic. The water and the sea play a huge part in everybody’s life. We were there for a wooden boat race in Douarnenez and spent a whole summer, winter, spring. That’s how much we loved it! It is a spectacular little city with cafes and wooden boats lining the waterfront.

Here is where we found Mousqueton, a clothing company headquartered in Brittany. Made and designed in France, this clothing is made of heavy cotton canvas for sailors, fishermen, and working people. It is truly last-a-lifetime clothing that only gets better as you wash it!

At World’s End, we carry the linen dresses, canvas fisherman smocks, and typical French sailor striped shirts. Shop Mousqueton on our website under Canvas Work Wear or come shop at the Mystic Seaport Wooden Boat Show in Mystic, Connecticut June 23-25th, 2023.
