HAND KNOTTED BERBER MOROCCIAN RUGS

This summer I sailed to Tangier Morocco ( out of the EU zone) so that I could sail back into the EU zone. I had been sailing around Europe for a few summers and needed to get out so that I would not have to pay a dreaded tax on my sailboat. It didn’t matter that Julien had paid $4000 for the boat and had rebuilt it several times. The officials of what ever country I was in would have valued it at what ever price they saw fit. To get away from this tax we sailed to Morocco one of the many African countries I have always dreamt of going.

Scouring the Medina alleyways and winding walls was the perfect medicine I needed after being on open sea and horizon for almost one month. The people, architecture and of course colorful textiles and rugs drove my heart and eye wild. It was teaser for me as I was heading to the islands off Spain in just under one week. I will be back next fall to sail Africa and spend time in this country of weavers & textile makers.

THIS IS WHAT I FOUND

At the whim of the weaver- this an evil eye protection rug
